Annual Business & Community Awards Luncheon
Sacramento NCBW’s Annual Business and Community Awards luncheon acknowledges Black women who have made groundbreaking and historic contributions to our state and communities in the areas of business, government, education, law enforcement, medicine, art, and communications. Held each year on the second Saturday of November, our signature luncheon is attended by 400-500 guests, and honors women selected from recommendations made by NCBW members and the community.
Past honorees have included:
The Honorable Superior Court Judge Alice Lytle, the first woman to serve as a Superior Court Judge in California; Sue Parker, the first woman to serve as Chief Clerk of the California State Assembly; Representative Karen Bass, 2nd woman to serve as Speaker of the California Assembly and current chair of the Congressional Black Caucus; Flossie Crump, first female detective at the Sacramento Police Department; Kathryn Lee, Co-Publisher of the Sacramento Observer Newspaper; Dr. Margaret Fortune, President and CEO of Fortune Schools; Senator Holly Mitchell, California State Senator and Los Angeles County Supervisor, and many others.

The Annual Luncheon also has brought to Sacramento such notable and national female voices as Joy Ann Reid, MSNBC national correspondent and host of the prime-time news show, “The ReidOut”; Diana Becton, first woman elected Contra Costa County District Attorney; Karine Jean-Pierre, NBC and MSNBC Political Analyst and White House staffer under President Barack Obama, as well as noted writers and actors.

An educator for more than 40 years – with 27 of those years in Davis, California – Ms. Rosemary personalizes the critical importance of education taught by her parents. “Know what is going on in the world so that you can be a part of the conversation,” she advises. “You must read to be knowledgeable, but everything you need to know is not in a book.”
